Welcome back to the Art of Crochet blog!
This is one of those squares that had me flummoxed for a while. It was all going okay until I got to round four. The pattern says to join the Purple yarn at any place and then to skip 2 stitches. This was one of my three attempts at this, but I kept ending up with the wrong number of loops.
In order for the next round to work, you need 16 loops – four on each side – and I ended up with too few or too many. Contacting the designer put me right and her solution is this: Start off in the centre of one of the Mauve five-treble fans and make the next double-crochet into the dip in-between the fans, then another 2ch, dc in the centre of the next fan, and so on. Golly, it’s easy when you know how!
Watch out (spoiler alert) as there are triple-trebles in the fifth round! What a lot of excitement, now I think I need a cup of tea to recover! Here’s the film so you can see what to do in close-up.
